The Bombay Beach Institute for Industrial Espionage & Post-Apocalyptic Studies (BBI) is cultural laboratory and think tank dedicated to experiments in social terraforming, creative world building, and alternative governance.

 

We formally launched BBI in 2025 to expand our relationship with Bombay Beach beyond a single weekend. We filed as a 501(c)3 to expand our fundraising capabilities, and will work alongside the Biennale to steward the ever-evolving Bombay Beach community. This year, we facilitated public programming across three full months. Our co-created community calendar included lectures, salons, community forums/meetings, potlucks, a philosophy conference, an underground night club, a community prom, workshops and skill-shares, various clubs (dance, chess, etc.), and much more. In the future, we plan to launch formal residencies, a printing press, develop affordable modular housing, and continue building our archive. ​
